Our Story

How it all started...

Lake Village Baptist Church was organized in 1861 with twenty-two members. Due to the impact of the Civil war, sixteen of those twenty-two were women married to servicemen. Even the first pastor, Rev. William Green, enlisted to serve. Thus the founding of the church was begun under the adverse shadow of war.

In June of 1869 the church was revived with services held in the County Court House, and in May of 1871 land was purchased on the corner of Court and Church, where the Lake Village Public Library is now located. This original structure (right) was the place of worship for Lake Village Baptist Church until February 22, 1931, when the church worshipped in the first iteration of our current building for the first time. (below)

This second building provided Sunday School rooms, an enlarged sanctuary, modern baptistery, and library. The church was blessed at the time of the building's construction with members of great intellect and vision, but even they could not foresee the growth that was to come in approaching years.

Expanding the vision...

Over the past 5 years, our church has experienced a significant influx in the 20-40 age group that has in turn resulted in a large growth in our children's department. We hope to continue to reach these generations in a time when many churches are struggling to do so.

As we grow, we hope to encourage a strong adherence to our core values of compassion, humility, relationships, integrity, service, and teaching. As a church, we do very well in some of these areas and we recognize the need to grow in others. This we seek to do for the good of our community and, most importantly, for the glory of God.

Where we are headed...

Our hope is that Lake Village Baptist Church can become a strongly multi-generational, multi-ethnic, body of believers in Christ. We believe that every member of the body of Christ has gifts that are important in and beneficial to the life of the church; therefore, we strive to create an atmosphere where all generations and ethnicities may feel welcomed to worship and serve together.

In a time when many churches are closing doors as a result of being unwilling to change or modify their approach to ministry, we strive to reach a new generation and bring them into meaningful fellowship with Christ and His church while also continuing to provide opportunities for meaningful ministry for those believers who have been faithful to serve for many years in the past.
